Dvergar

Small, stubborn smiths of the deep. Frail of frame, but masters of metal, mine and market.

Every other race in the mod makes you better at fighting or turns you into something else. The Dvergar makes you better at everything around the fighting: mining, smithing, trading, and knowing what is in the rock before you swing at it.

You pay for it in health, permanently and increasingly. The Dvergar is the only race with a straight downside that never goes away — it gets worse as you progress.

Numbers are still being tuned

The Dvergar shipped in 1.3.10 with most of its percentages deliberately provisional — chosen to be playable rather than final. Expect the figures on this page to move.

Base kit (tier 1)

  • 22% shorter than a human, with slate blue-grey skin and white hair.
  • −10 max health, growing worse with progression.
  • Weapon Affinity: Hammers — see below.
  • The hood never comes off.

The hood

The dvergr hood is permanently on your head, and it is purely cosmetic. Wear whatever helmet you like: you keep every point of its armour, its resistances and its set bonus. Only the mesh is swapped.

There is no way to take it off. The runes will always show you as one of the deep folk.

The health malus

TierMax health
Base · Eikthyr · The Elder−10
Bonemass−13
Moder−15
Yagluth−17.5
The Queen · Fader−20

This is a flat subtraction applied on top of whatever your food is giving you, and it is the race's whole cost. A Dvergar is never reduced below 5 max health, however the malus and your food happen to line up.

Mechanics worth knowing

Weapon Affinity

Weapons you are at home with hit 15% harder and refund 20% of the stamina the attack costs.

WeaponFrom
Hammers (Clubs)Base
BowsEikthyr
AxesThe Elder
CrossbowsYagluth

Two things make this different from the Furling's XP multiplier:

  • The bonus never grows. A tier only ever hands you another weapon to feel at home with — it does not deepen the affinity you already have.
  • Skill XP is untouched. You level Clubs and Bows at exactly the same rate as anyone else. The affinity is about the blow, not the learning.

The practical read: pick a hammer at the start and you are never wrong. By Yagluth you cover melee, bow and crossbow, which is most of what anyone actually carries.

Mining Affinity (Eikthyr)

Vein damage+20% per swing
Stamina40% refunded
Extra ore25% chance of an extra unit

The speed increase is modelled as extra pickaxe damage rather than a faster swing, because rock HP is what actually gates how long a vein takes.

The extra-drop chance applies to copper, tin, iron scrap, silver, black metal scrap and flametal. Combined with the 40% stamina refund, a Dvergar clears a copper deposit in noticeably fewer trips and far less food than anyone else.

Smithing and Jewelry (Bonemass)

Metal and gems cost 20% less when crafting and upgrading, rising to 40% at Moder, where it caps.

Only metals, ores and gems are discounted — copper, tin, bronze, iron, silver, black metal, flametal, nails, ruby, amber, coins and the like. Wood, stone, leather and resin are not. This is deliberate: it keeps the perk to the forge rather than quietly halving the cost of every wall you put up.

At 40% off, a full armour set and its upgrades cost a Dvergar what a two-thirds set costs everyone else.

Kin of the Traders (Bonemass)

Haldor and Hildir recognise their own, and it works both ways.

TierThey chargeThey pay
Bonemass−10%+10%
Moder−15%+20%
Yagluth−20%+30%
The Queen−25%+40%

The sell bonus applies to trophies and hunting rewards, which is the half people underestimate: by The Queen, a trophy run is worth 40% more to a Dvergar than to anyone else in the party.

Runic Ping (G, Yagluth)

Send a pulse through the stone.

Cost25 eitr
Radius40 m
Duration10 s
Cooldown20 s

Every ore vein within range lights up blue, and every hostile lights up red — through rock, through walls, through the dark. Copper, tin, silver, obsidian, meteorite, flametal, mud piles and leviathans all register.

The lights are yours alone

The markers are local point lights, exactly like the Aswid's Auspex. Nothing is replicated, so the ability costs other players on the server nothing at all — and they cannot see your readings.

If nothing answers, you are told so: "the stone is silent."

Runic Overcharge (H, Fader)

Load the runes. Your next blow with a favoured weapon lands with 4× its weight.

Cost60 eitr
Window15 s
Cooldown60 s

The charge is held, not permanent — land a favoured blow inside 15 seconds or it bleeds away, cooldown spent. It only discharges on a weapon you are at home with, so it will not be wasted on an off-hand poke with something you happen to be holding.

Both abilities cost eitr

Unusually for this mod, the Dvergar's two actives are paid in eitr, not stamina — but they unlock at Yagluth and Fader, by which point Mistlands eitr food and gear are long since available. Compare Skadi, whose abilities unlock at Eikthyr and therefore had to be moved off eitr entirely.

War Vulture

The Dvergar is one of the two races allowed to ride the War Vulture by default (the Furling is the other) — a vulture trophy kept on a stick, craftable at a Forge for 10 Greydwarf Eyes, 2 Black Metal and 2 Raw Lox Meat. Left-click the item to summon it; the same click, held with the run key, gives you a limited sprint. There is no dedicated keybind — see Key bindings for the full mechanics, which apply the same way to every race allowed to ride.

Stations

Contract Bank

A hire bench that is a real contract bank: five crew slots, filled from a fixed roster and paid for in coin, discounted by Kin of the Traders the same way everything else you buy from a trader is.

CrewBase priceMembersNeeds the Queen's drop
Escort4001 Dverger, 2 Seeker BroodNo
Yard Patrol7002 Dverger, 2 Seeker BroodNo
Fire Crew1,0001 Dverger, 1 Fire Mage, 3 Seeker BroodNo
Runic Crew1,5002 Dverger, 1 Ice Mage, 1 Support MageYes
Ash Guard2,0002 Ashlands Dverger, 1 Support Mage, 1 Seeker BruteYes

Using the Queen's drop on the bank unlocks the top two bands. A hired crew is tamed, keeps its employer's truce with every wild dvergr (seekers included), heals itself over time, and carries no loot at all — a dead crew is money spent, not a resource to farm. Race locked, one per square kilometre, and the recipe needs no crafted reagent from a merchant the way the mod's other station chains do: the bank itself simply costs 100 coin on top of its build materials.

Rune Barrel

Fills with 20 doses of any single vanilla brew and pours a dose into every hired dvergr standing within 30 m of it — a whole round is four doses per crew member across a full five-slot bank. It refuses nothing and promises nothing in return: what a brew actually does to a dvergr depends entirely on what that potion's own status effect does, so a healing mead heals one and a stamina mead does nothing at all, because nothing you have hired carries a stamina bar to spend. Race locked, same as the bank.

See Stations for every race's chain side by side.

Playing one

  • You are a support and economy race in a party, and a slow, careful one solo. Play around the health malus rather than pretending it is not there.
  • Take a hammer early. It is your only affinity until Eikthyr, and Clubs is a perfectly good weapon line to be locked into.
  • Be the one who does the mining runs. Between the vein damage, the stamina refund and the extra drops, the gap between you and a non-Dvergar is enormous over a full trip.
  • Do the shopping. Whatever the party needs from Haldor, buy it on your character.
  • Save Runic Ping for entering somewhere unfamiliar — a crypt, a new biome, a Mistlands approach. Reading the enemies is worth as much as reading the ore.
